    Tekedia – Editors Wanted

    We are looking for editors for tekedia.com. You must be physically living in West Africa and must have operated, written generously or managed a blog. Interested? Please email us your CV along with links to your blogs. When you join us, you must write a minimum of 6 original posts per day. We will reward in the range of N35,000 – N40,000 per month for only tekedia.com exclusive contents. If you plagiarize contents and we find out, you could be liable to damages.

    Unfortunately, if you are our editor, you cannot maintain another blog. We will spend money and resources to brand you on the web ecosystem and will need your full focus.

    Your responsibilities are many and varied as we are looking for breaking news and covering neglected news within Technology, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Education.

    They include among others:

    - interview/document/analyse technology creators, users, mechanics, hairdressers, metal molders, shoe designers (those Aba boys practice technology, also), herbalists, professors, engineers, policy markers, palm wine tappers (what do they do, we want to know), local farmers (one harvests bigger yams, the neighbor weeps on poor harvest, why?), student inventors (cover those class projects), etc

    - write about them

    - report about startups

    - write on business and technology policy

    - profile legends and icons of technology

    - student leaders and administrators on education, technology, etc.

    - And anything innovation, entrepreneurship, education, and technology.

    Our contents are aligned within West Africa and South Africa though once in a while you can cover technology events around the world.

    NB: Editors must have personal computers/laptops, internet access and work from home, and will cover all associated costs for pursuing contents.

    Football Editor West Africa

    Contract skilled level position in the Media sector at International Concern in Lagos West Africa in Nigeria.

    Experienced Football Editor required on a fixed-term basis. This will be a performance based contract and the incumbent will report to the Africa football Manager. This position will be based in Lagos, Nigeria.

    Please note that this position requires working shifts, including weekends

    • Football federations & clubs in West Africa
    • Media organizations and football media individuals in West Africa

    OUTPUTS

    • Grow Company’s online market share in West Africa
    • Create and manage comprehensive West African football content
    • Create and manage unique content relating to West African football players in Europe & other International countries
    • Ensure that the spelling and grammar of the stories are of the highest quality
    • Ensure that the football website is kept up-to-date with latest news, results, logs & fixtures of West African countries
    • Ensure that the configuration accurately reflects the current climate both locally and internationally
    • Ensure that the West African partner websites receive the highest standard of attention and The Company gets the maximum benefit of the relationship
    • Monitor that all relevant football information is accurately reflected

    Competencies:

    • Excellent English language skills, particularly within the football/sporting environment
    • An in-depth understanding of the football environment in West Africa
    • A passion for and knowledge of football that allows you to work within its many disciplines
    • The ability to work quickly and accurately
    • The ability to work under pressure and reach set deadlines
    • Excellent people relationships with local media and football associations in West Africa
    • Excellent attention to detail
    • Knowledge of Search Engine Optimisation will be an advantage

    KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS

    • Matric or West African equivalent
    • Journalism qualification is essential
    • Good Microsoft Office computer literacy skill are essential
    • Excellent knowledge of the Internet is essential
    • At least five years work experience (sports on the internet) is a distinct advantage
    • HTML skills will be an advantage

  • Waja Excellence Awards for Investigative Journalism (West Africa)

    The West Africa Journalists Association (WAJA) through its Capacity Building Project Monday August 30th launched the WAJA Excellence Awards 2010 on the theme “Investigative Journalism and Ethics” to promote ethical journalism, quality research, investigations; and to recognize and promote talent in journalism in the WAJA/ECOWAS Space.

    The 3rd Edition of the Competition is open to practicing journalists in the 15 ECOWAS Member states and Mauritania in the fields of Print, Radio and Television. In addition to a monetary prize, the winners will take part in at least one training session on Investigative Journalism and Ethics.

    PARTICIPATION CONDITIONS

    To take part, the following conditions should be met. Candidates must:
    • Be a practicing journalist
    • Be resident in one of the 16 WAJA member countries
    • Work regularly for a press agency or media institution
    Works presented must be:
    • Broadcast on a television or radio station or published in a newspaper, magazine or wire of a news agency between May 30, 2009 and May 30, 2010.
    • In French, English or Portuguese.

    Requirements

    1. For the Print Press: A copy of the article as published accompanied by the name of the newspaper or magazine. The date of publication must be visible. A CV of the candidate should also be presented.
    2. For the Audio-Visual Media: A copy of the production as it was broadcast by a radio or a television station on VHS cassette, VCD or DVD (Television), or on magnetic band, audio cassette high fidelity, MP3 (Radio). A CV of the candidate should also be presented.

    Works must be submitted latest October 30, 2010 through National Associations/Unions which are members of WAJA and/or to the WAJA-CBP, B.P.1300 Hamdallaye ACI 2000, Rue 413, Porte 109, Bamako, Mali.
